How turning on AI works
In a direct message the assistant appears only after both people say yes. Here is the exact handshake.

Propose it
Open the chat menu and choose Enable AI. Either person in a direct message can suggest it — the assistant does not appear yet.

Both of you agree
The other person sees a frosted banner over the conversation with Enable or Decline. Nothing switches on until they confirm, and a system message records who suggested it and who turned it on.

Summon a model
Type @ and pick any model your plan includes — up to eight matches from the catalog, with higher-tier models marked. Reply to something the AI said to bring the same model back.

In a group, the admin decides
A group has a single switch the admin controls. Turn it on once and everyone in the group can summon the assistant — there is no per-person handshake.
Your own AI chats are always on
A dedicated chat with a model is just you and the assistant, so there is nothing to agree to. Consent only exists where another person shares the chat.
Always a visible participant
When the AI is on it shows up in the chat like any member — a name and an avatar, never hidden. Switching it off is one tap away in the chat menu, any time.
Questions, answered
To reply, the model reads the conversation it has been added to — nothing else. Messages are encrypted in transit and stored on European infrastructure, and the assistant only ever sees a chat where it has been turned on.

Any model your plan includes. Type @ in the composer and the catalog appears — up to eight matches, with models above your plan tier marked so you can see what an upgrade unlocks. You can summon a model even before it has joined the chat.
Open the chat menu and choose Disable AI, or use Decline or Cancel on the consent banner. Because the AI is always a visible participant, switching it off is always one tap away.
